How to Break In Your Dance Shoes

If you are a pointe dancer, you need to wear some of the most uncomfortable shoes ever created; however, they are a necessary part of your performing outfit. You must break in these pointe shoes while keeping them looking like new. This guide explains how to break in your dance shoes so they are comfortable for your next performance.
First: Clip your toenails
Having long toenails causes your toes to rub against the wood in the toe of the shoe, which can cause you considerable pain. Before you put on your new shoes, make sure your toenails are short and rub as little as possible.
Second: Wear tights with your shoes
You should wear tights as you break in your shoes because you wear them when you perform. Wearing the tights while breaking in your shoes keeps your feet from experiencing any additional discomfort during the performance.
Third: Moisten your shoes with rubbing alcohol
Use rubbing alcohol to moisten your shoes. You should concentrate especially on the areas around the heel and the toes. While the shoes are still wet, put them on and walk. Try to wear the shoes for half an hour, periodically going on pointe and returning to a normal position.
Fourth: Concentrate on comfort and appearance
Use lamb's wool to stuff the toe and any other area of the shoe that may feel uncomfortable. The lamb's wool is very soft and forms to your foot. Also, remember that your shoes can pick up scuffs as you wear them. To keep them looking good while you break them in, wear socks over your shoes.
